Scenic reading with Theater Orlando, Rastede, based on a text by Thomas Kossendey

Theater Orlando, directed by Sylvia Meining, is based in Rastede near Oldenburg. The venue there is the golden salon in the ducal palace with 30-35 seats. With the production "Elisabeth and Friedrich August. An ill-fated marriage", which was compiled from the files of the Secret State Archives of Prussian Cultural Heritage, reports from the Prussian envoy and other contemporary witnesses, it has already performed at locations where the events took place in the palace in Oldenburg and in the Elisabeth-Anna-Palais there.

Two actors, Sylvia Meining and Ulf Goerges, are all that is needed to bring the Grand Duke and Duchess Elisabeth of Mecklenburg-Schwerin and Friedrich August of Oldenburg, their daughter, an Oldenburg MP, the Prussian envoy or bourgeois subjects at the tea table onto the stage and to illuminate the case of the ill-fated marriage between the Grand Duke's daughter from Mecklenburg and the Hereditary Grand Duke of Oldenburg from different perspectives. The marriage took place in 1895 for purely dynastic reasons and fulfilled its purpose, as it produced two daughters and an heir to the throne, but in the end the relationship failed completely, ending in mutual infidelity, forced admission to a sanatorium and finally separation. It was not only the spouses themselves who influenced the course of events, but also their families and domestic and foreign powers. This was not a private matter. The plot is summarized by a narrator, the play's author Thomas Kossendey.

We are delighted that, at our request, Theater Orlando will be performing the play on Friday, April 12 at 6 p.m. in the Golden Hall of the Neustädtisches Palais, a place where Elisabeth also lived in Schwerin, and would like to cordially invite you to attend.

Tickets can be purchased in advance from the Schoknecht bookshop, Schloßstr. 20, Schwerin, at a price of €25.00. Members of the History Society receive two tickets at a price of € 20.00.
