Chamber concert for violin and piano
Two of Hamburg's most exciting young artists are honoring us with a preview:
On October 06, 2024, violinist David Wurm and pianist Levi Schechtmann will play their 10th anniversary concert as a duo at the Elbphilharmonie - but they are already presenting their program in advance today at Schloß Vietgest. Selected works by Gershwin, Beethoven, Mozart and Prokofiev will first delight us and then Hamburg obsessively! A small historical note: Porgy and Bess, George Gershwin's only opera from which David and Levi are performing excerpts today, also had a preview almost 89 years ago to the day, back then in Boston, before it celebrated its Broadway premiere on October 10, 1935. We also hear Beethoven's Violin Sonata No. 4 in A minor - according to the Allgemeine Musikalische Zeitung of October 1801, one of the "best that B. has written, and that really means among the best that are being written right now." Sonatas by Mozart and Prokofiev round off the program.
David Wurm has already performed as a soloist in renowned concert halls. Since June 2022, he has taken on the role of concertmaster and project manager at the Albert Schweitzer Jugendorchester. He has received several awards, including first prize at the national competition Jugend musiziert Violin Solo. David has also been involved in various recording projects, including with NDR in 2014 and a CD production in 2023. He was also a juror at the 60th State Competition Jugend musiziert Hamburg 2023.
Levi Schechtmann began playing the piano at the age of seven and took part in various competitions shortly afterwards. This was followed by numerous awards such as prizes at the Grand Prix of the International Feurich Competition in Vienna in 2016 and 2017 as well as being awarded 1st prize at the 2nd German-Chinese Piano Competition. In 2023, he also received the prestigious Dr. Eva Maria Zbick-Föderpreis. Levi has been a Bechstein Ambassador since 2023. More than 400,000 people already follow the young piano artist on Instagram and his reinterpretations of classical music regularly reach millions of views.
