Even today, many East German families do not speak openly about life in the GDR. For this book, filmmakers Sabine Michel and Dörte Grimm have brought grandparents and their grandchildren born after 1982 into conversation with each other. In the process, not only do imprints and value systems collide, but literally the future and the past. These stirring encounters show how a dialog between the generations can be set in motion. At the same time, they allow us to understand current political developments in East Germany differently and better.
Dörte Grimm, born in Pritzwalk in 1978, studied journalism, history and ethnology in Berlin. She has been working as an author and filmmaker since 2008. She writes children's books, shoots documentaries and works for television. She has been involved in the Perspektive hoch drei / Dritte Generation Ostdeutschland association since 2015.
Sabine Michel, born in Dresden in 1971, studied Applied Theater Studies after years in Paris and Lisbon, and later Film Directing in Potsdam / Babelsberg. The Adolf Grimme Award winner has been working in cinema, television and theater since 2005. Her film "Women in Landscapes" is currently showing in cinemas.
