Eva Strittmatter set to new music; A solo with Reinhardt Repke

He has always been the secret star of the club, mastermind and composer of all the programs. Reinhardt Repke founded the Club der toten Dichter in 2005 and is now touring Germany with the 7th program. Solo! Alone on stage, alone on CD - and with the first female poet at the CdtD!

Eva Strittmatter (1930-2011)

"The simple honesty..." of the "circulation millionaire... gets under your skin", writes the SPIEGEL, and the Süddeutsche Zeitung adds: " of the most important writers of the post-war period."

"My poems should not be read at banquets, but in the kitchen while cooking. I don't sympathize with champagne labels, but with mops and brooms." The first lines of the poem Burden, already describe it. Even people who don't have much to do with poetry read her poems and feel no barrier. Everyday words are her material from which she presses poetry and she only wants to "move away very little from the language of the people" with whom she interacts.
For Reinhardt Repke, Eva Strittmatter is a very personal discovery. In his mother's estate, he found the volume of poetry Die eine Rose überwältigt alles from 1979, with a dedication by Eva Strittmatter. The first musical setting was created, giving the program and the CD its name: Beginning of Love. A tender song, composed on an old 4-string guitar. "You memorize poems musically. I am fascinated by the musicality of poetic language, which is another reason why I stuck with rhyming...", says Eva Strittmatter. In his search for this musicality, Reinhardt Repke has achieved a special symbiosis. His vocals and the sound of his guitars do not overpower the texts, leaving room to breathe and yet interweaving in a touching way.

After Heine, Busch, Rilke, Schiller, Bukowski and Fontane, now Eva Strittmatter. In over 400 concerts to date, the Club der toten Dichter has gained a loyal audience throughout Germany and has also received an extremely positive response in the media.
