CINEMA: DIRTY DANCING

It is the summer of 1963: the assassination of John F. Kennedy has not yet taken place, youth culture is not even in its infancy. The U.S. is in a state of innocence. However, this has a stifling effect on 17-year-old Frances Houseman (Jennifer Grey). Frances, known to everyone as "Baby," plans to study economics and become a peace activist. For now, though, she's 'trapped' with her family at a spa resort where she boredly sits out her vacation. Her situation gains appeal, however, when she falls for dance instructor and philanderer Johnnie Castle (Patrick Swayze).

When Johnnie's partner is prevented from dancing, Baby gets her big chance. Because: Johnnie always dances the last dance of the season at the graduation party and needs a partner. Baby's dubious dancing skills, however, need improvement. During intensive training, not only Baby's skills grow, but also Johnnie's feelings are less and less able to resist her naïve and defiant charm...
