Film drama from the year 2021
Johnny (Joaquin Phoenix) is a New York radio presenter and has just got used to being single again after a very long relationship. When his sister Viv calls him out of the blue and asks him to look after her nine-year-old son Jesse (Woddy Norman), Johnny's life is thrown into turmoil. For the first time in his life, the man has to take responsibility for a child, while Jesse has to deal with not seeing his mother for an extended period of time. As the radio presenter has to complete an important project for work, the two embark on a long road trip across the United States. The journey visibly changes both of them and a deep emotional bond develops.
Journalist Ulrich Kriest's verdict on the film: "Photographed in beautiful, rich black and white, accompanied by originally selected music from Claude Debussy to Etta James and Lee Perry, passages read aloud from various fiction and non-fiction books with superimposed source references, Mills has created a deeply humanistic masterpiece with "Come on, Come on" - one does not choose this word lightly and only with the greatest restraint."
