Book launch and discussion with the publisher Carsten Gansel
"When it comes to equality, I go on the barricades." Brigitte Reimann, 1963
Unknown stories about women by Brigitte Reimann, never before published in book form: A schoolgirl, like the young Brigitte Reimann herself, searches for a way to end an unplanned pregnancy and has to realize that she is completely on her own in this "maturity test". Katja has to decide whether to marry the man she loves, even though he demands that she subordinate herself to his career and give up her dream job. One evening before Christmas, the residents of an apartment building experience just how difficult it is to reconcile self-determination and care work.
With her cycle of stories, the author wanted to explore the position of women in society in a literary way - she felt the restrictions she constantly had to fight against and the prejudices she was repeatedly exposed to due to her self-confident life choices were so massive
Editor Carsten Gansel, Professor of Modern German Literature at the University of Giessen, will present the collection of stories,
