A funeral is about to take place. As a refugee child, Christel Camin ended up on the coast of Western Pomerania in the winter of 1945. She was part of a large family, part of a community of friends and companions. They are now all coming together to say goodbye to the deceased.
Yvonne, a niece of Christel Camin and the novel's protagonist, is also part of this wide-ranging community. For her, the journey to Kattenstieg, the funeral service and an unexpected encounter become a journey in which past and present inexorably flow into one another, meeting on paths that seemed long forgotten.
