It's back, although it wasn't really gone. Thalheim is far from finished. Her most personal program to date shows an alert and humorous observer who knows how to surprise. Full of relish, irony and also flirtatious and full of joie de vivre.
"I breathe in the world and breathe it out again as a song."
The laconic stories she tells between the songs make her new program particularly appealing. Sometimes very direct, sometimes liberatingly funny. Not without melancholy, but never self-pitying. Guitarist Christian Stoltz accompanies her with arrangements that are as clear as they are poetic.
"On the one hand, the new lies in Thalheim's voice, which sounds both more mature and more light-hearted - as if the sandpaper of years of life had polished the vocal and soul ligaments in exactly the right places. The voice is rougher, the curls shorter - but the soul is as sore as ever." (Deutschlandradio)
Barbara Thalheim is a very precise observer with a special feel for situations and people. As a political artist, she has always taken a stand and has often found herself caught between two stools - then as now. She never conformed. A singer who is a rarity today in our smoothly ironed entertainment world.
A captivating and touching diseuse. (ARD/MDR)
