Classical Music, Lecture & Science, Literature, Musikland MV

A musical lecture with Andreas Lettowsky, Schwerin (lecture and singing) and Christiane Möckel, Schwerin (piano)

Neustrelitz Academy Circle - May 24, 2024, 7.30 p.m.

Location: Hall in the Catholic parish office, Am Tiergarten 2, 17235 Neustrelitz

150 years ago, on April 5, 1874 (it was Easter Sunday), "Die Fledermaus" premiered at the Theater an der Wien. It is regarded as the operetta par excellence. The composer Johann Strauss Sohn had long been famous throughout Europe at the time, above all as a master of the Viennese waltz.

Johann Strauss will be a focal point of the musical performance. But not only he, the younger one, the Waltz King. A part of the evening will also be dedicated to the elder, Johann Strauss' father. He was also a superstar in Europe in the middle of the 19th century and paved the way to success for his son - without wanting to.
What is so special about the Viennese waltz? Why was Vienna crazy about this dance from the beginning of the 19th century? Why was this dance so revolutionary? The lecture will deal with these and other questions. This will be complemented by a number of musical delicacies performed by Austrian bass-baritone Andreas Lettowsky and pianist Christiane Möckel.
