Peninsula of Fischland-Darß-Zingst
The Peninsula of Fischland-Darss-Zingst is one of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern's most treasured cultural and culinary gems. Here, you get a true taste of the Baltic. Anyone who has ever visited the peninsula, even if only to go swimming, can hardly resist its irresistible magic, the demure charm of the untamed beaches and weather-beaten forests.
The narrow promontory between the sea and the Bodden with its flat and steep banks, lagoons, bays, spits, dunes, beaches and flat muds is an intrinsic part of one of the most beautiful and diverse landscapes in the state. A crown jewel of nature, rigorously protected by the "Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft" National Park.
Trees grown with the wind bestow a wildness on this region and even in the most peaceful of summers, give an inkling just to what degree the trees on top of the steep cliffs here have to battle against the vagaries of nature. Painters and poets, scientists and thinkers have welcomed this ethnicity more than most. With brush and paint, in poems and stories, they have captured the harsh forces of nature on canvas and paper. This ethnicity has been greatly valued ever since. Most of the new houses nowadays are given a thatched roof, smooth plastered façades, certainly a good coat of paint and sometimes even ornately carved doors.
In the spring and the autumn, it is the migrating birds that draw the attention of visitors most. Many an evening, hundreds of thousands of cranes, ducks, geese, seagulls and swans throng the air above the Bodden landscape. A spectacle that never ceases to amaze.
