There is also a wide variety of other attractions on offer, such as the railway, known as the Bäderbahn Molli, and the Darwineum at the zoo in Rostock. In 1793, Mecklenburg's Grand Duke Friedrich Franz I and his personal physician recognised the restorative benefits that bathing in the Baltic Sea had to health. As a result, the first seaside resort of Heiligendamm became the cornerstone of "Sommerfrische", a retreat to a summer health resort by the sea.
