Granitz Hunting Lodge
The Granitz Hunting Lodge is one of the most popular destinations in Rügen.
The Granitz Hunting Lodge, built by Prince Wilhelm Malte I. zu Putbus 1837-51 by J. G. Steinmeyer, stands in the middle of the Granitz forest. The main attraction of the hunting lodge is the spiral staircase in the middle tower made out of cast iron. With 154 steps it leads up to the 38 m high tower. The viewing platform offers a picturesque panoramic view over the island of Rügen.
The hunting lodge houses an impressive collection of trophies, prestigious salons and rooms for events. An exhibition informs about the varied architectural history, exquisite visitors and royal hunting pleasure. In the summer months concerts of the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Festival take place in the Marble Hall.
In the basement of the castle you will find the "Alte Brennerei" (Old Distillery). In the medieval ambience you can treat yourself for the way back. The "Waldbiergarten Granitz" at the foot of the hunting lodge is also an inviting place to linger, while young visitors can discover the forest and wildlife on the theme playground.
