The 2 km long former pilot island is located in the mouth of the Peene River off the island of Usedom. You can reach the island of Ruden by boat from Peenemünde, Karlshagen and Freest. The information center, built in 1999, is part of the Baltic Coast Nature Trail. It informs about the history of the island and the nature reserve "Peenemünde Haken" and is located in a brick tower, which belonged to the measuring base of the Peenemünde power plant. From the tower you have a beautiful view of the southern tip of the island, which serves as a nesting place for many sea birds.
