National Park and Nature Conservation Centres

In the information center of the island of Ruden you can learn a lot of interesting facts about the history of the island, about the nature reserve Peenemünder Haken, Struck and Ruden on five floors.

The 2 km long former pilot island is located in the mouth of the Peene River off the island of Usedom. The approximately 26-hectare island is home to many protected habitats, such as dune pine forest, valuable dry and dune grasslands, and salt marshes. These biotopes make the Ruden nature reserve an important retreat for rare animal and plant species,
You can reach the island of Ruden by boat from Peenemünde, Karlshagen and Freest. The information center, built in 1999, is part of the Baltic Coast Nature Trail. It informs about the history of the island and the nature reserve "Peenemünde Haken" and is located in a brick tower, which belonged to the measuring base of the Peenemünde power plant. From the tower you have a beautiful view of the southern tip of the island, which serves as a nesting place for many sea birds.

Located on the Peenestrom in the district Tannenkamp in Wolgast you drive on the route of North German Romanticism along the Dreilindengrund. This translates to: The Ground of three limetrees. The name was given to it from the landing stage at the transfer of the fallen Swedish king Gustav II Adolf in 1633 during the Thirty Years' War. In memory of him three lime trees were planted. The small forest nearby was named Gustav-Adolf-Schlucht.
