Botanical Garden of the University of Rostock
The Botanical Garden belongs to the University of Rostock. It was founded in 1885 in the "Doberaner Straße". Since 1939, an open-air area of 7.8 hectares with 10,000 plant species with mountain area, biotopes, Japanese gardens and a medicinal and spice plant department has been located on "Hamburger Straße" (current location). The new Loki-Schmidt greenhouses were opened here in May 2009. There are also ponds, brooks and other biotopes and an arboretum with hardy trees and bushes. Aarge alpinum contains plant species from the most important mountain and highland regions of the world. Very well maintained.
