Excellent speciality beers
From light to dark, from Pilsner to Bock
To a large extent, the Hanseatic towns owe their wealth to the success of this cool export which has been shipped over the whole Baltic Sea.
No matter how you spend your holiday by the Baltic Sea, sooner or later everybody longs for a nice, cool, refreshing drink. Nothing could be more natural than sampling one of the local beers.
Probably the largest brewery in the state can be found in Dargun. It has held unrestricted rights to brewing beer since the 11th century. Today, the Dargun brewery produces a wide variety of different beers. The refreshing taste of Stralsund beer went far beyond the state's borders even as far back as the Hanseatic times. And the traditional Störtebeker Braumanufaktur still continues to delight us today with its excellent speciality beers. The natural characteristics of Marlow beer are quite distinctive. Fresh well water is drawn from an 8,000 year old spring 120 metres below ground and used in the production process.
The state's breweries can look back on a centuries-old brewing tradition. A number of breweries, including the Rostock brewery and the Störtebeker Braumanufaktur offer a variety of guided tours showing the various manufacturing processes and also include a beer tasting session.
Something for every taste
Naturally, the beer is brewed according to the German Purity Laws from the year 1516. But beer around here is much more than just a popular thirst quencher. Many of the state's restaurateurs use beer as one of the ingredients in their delicious dishes. Whether braised in a beer stock or refined with black beer, dishes are accorded their own unique aromatic note.
