  • Am Kirchenplatz, 17179 Gnoien

The town was founded in the 13th century as the northernmost border town of Mecklenburg. The first written record dates back to 1257. In the 19th century the hereditary marshal Count Hahn had the castle remodeled by the Berlin architect Stüler. In 1891 neo-Renaissance forms were added in parts. Particularly noteworthy are the terracotta portraits on the facade. The largest landscape park in the country (200 ha) was created by Peter Joseph Lenné in the middle of the 19th century. From the original house comes the 9-axis central part, which was probably built in the 18th century. In the 19th century, the house underwent considerable reconstruction and expansion. Everything is crowned by the mighty, crenellated tower. In contrast to the white house, the upper part of the tower is made of red bricks.
