The church of St. Marien in Grimmen dates back to the 13th century.
St. Marien was built in the middle to the end of the 13th century, making it the oldest building of the city. After the construction of the three-aisled early Gothic hall church, the tower, choir and chapels were added. The Mauritiuschapel is since 1615 the burial place of the family of Freiherr Albrecht von Wackenitz zu Klevenow.
