Castles and Manors

Castle Hotels, Events and Culture

The region between the Baltic Sea and the Lake District is rich in noble manor houses from medieval times surrounded by magnificent gardens. The best thing is that many of them open their doors and invite guests to enjoy them - as an elegant restaurant, a stylish castle hotel or a special concert venue.

A castle, a park, a lake – this romantic combination is more widespread in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern than in any other European region. Between green hills, dense forests and colorful meadows lie around 2,000 castles, manor houses and manor houses picturesquely nestled in romantic parks and the vast landscape between the Baltic Sea coast and the Mecklenburg Lake District.

Around 300 of these stately properties invite visitors to stroll, relax and enjoy themselves as museums, concert halls and event venues or as stylish hostels. Some are also very popular as romantic wedding venues.

The most beautiful castles in the country

The most imposing residences have been left behind by the Dukes of Mecklenburg: The Renaissance palace of Güstrow, the baroque complex of the town of Ludwigslust, the Schloss Schwerin as a prime example of romantic historicism and the classicist palace of Hohenzieritz were built primarily for representative purposes . This was followed by entire town ensembles such as Putbus and Neustrelitz, as well as noble summer residences and playful hunting lodges such as Granitz and Gelbensande.

These grand and royal estates offer visitors fascinating insights and views - starting from the panoramic views of the Baltic Sea island of Rügen, from the 1000-year history of the Mecklenburg dukes to the most extensive collection of Dutch paintings from the Golden Age in Europe.

Visit castles and gardens

The most magnificent castles from Schwerin to Hohenzieritz are now in the care of the state. They are considered cultural-historical jewels, venerable witnesses of time and outstanding storytellers.

Spend the Night in the Castle

Today, many former residences of princes and landed gentry offer stylishly furnished apartments and rooms, often with beautiful terraces and gardens. From small idyllic country houses for two to family-oriented organic hotels, equestrian lodges and monastery hostels to wellness and golf hotels, the range of accommodation on offer is perfect for a royal . The latter can be found, for example, at the neo-baroque Schloss Fleesensee in the Mecklenburg Lake District.

Passion manor house in the Peene Valley

The Peene Valley in the heart of Western Pomerania is also full of such cultural treasures: The romantic Hotel Schloss Neetzow in the style of English country estates is one of the most striking manor houses that give expression to a historicist-romantic architectural concept. The Gutshof Liepen, with its country-style rooms, works sustainably and refines the restaurant's cuisine with herbs and salads from its own harvest. The moated castle Quilow, a Renaissance building and monument of national value, was renovated and reopened in 2020 for exhibitions, concerts, readings and workshops. The three houses are beautifully connected by the Peene Valley River Landscape Nature Park.

Events in Schlössern

Music, dancing, good food and socializing have always been part and parcel of high society. Today, the facilities are open to the general public and serve as a unique backdrop for unforgettable cultural events.

To in June and to the öffnen many manor and castle lords open their doors and attract guests with a varied cultural program in the impressive historic Gemäuer, while the initiative invites individual travelers to enjoy culinary delights and stimulating conversations in Mecklenburg ParkLand. The MV Festival brings numerous castles such as Ulrichshusen, Schwiessel and Kummerow to life and the takes place in June and July against the imposing backdrop of Schwerin Castle.
