Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is the destination of many cyclists' dreams. Or even the beginning. Whether in the direction of Berlin, Hamburg, or Copenhagen - nine eventful long-distance cycle routes lead through Mecklenburg-Vorpommern's nature-rich landscapes and beyond. On well-signposted routes, each long-distance cycle route delights with its very own charm.

Every Stage an Experience: Places of Interest Along the Long-distance Cycle Routes

Mecklenburg-Vorpommern can be comfortably explored from the saddle on the long-distance bike paths. You'll ride past shimmering lakes and rushing rivers, over green hills and through dense beech forests. Well-known sights and popular excursion destinations along the individual stages invite you to go on a discovery tour beyond the bike path. The stages can be planned individually according to your own needs. If you feel like it, you can combine two or more cycle routes - in many places long-distance and circular cycle routes overlap, so that you can change direction at any time. Always take your bathing suit with you, because the nearest bathing water is always only a few meters away from the cycle path - no matter which route you choose.

The network of long-distance cycling routes is well signposted; cycling trips are therefore easy to plan even without local knowledge. Many bike tour operators also offer individual bike tours and guided bike tours on selected sections of the route. More information can be found on the websites of Mecklenburger Radtour, Radreisen Mecklenburg or Wikinger Reisen.

Coasts, artists, Königsstuhl: The Baltic Sea Coastal Cycle Route

The Baltic Coast Cycle Route takes cyclists over 1,100 kilometers from Travemünde to Usedom. The route stretches along seaside coasts, vast expanses of forest and sophisticated Baltic seaside resorts. During the 15-day tour, cyclists pass the UNESCO World Heritage city of Wismar, explore Heiligendamm, Germany's first seaside resort, and follow in the footsteps of great artists from the saddle in the former artists' colony of Ahrenshoop. Finally, the Baltic Coast Cycle Route takes you once around the island of Rügen and past the imposing Königsstuhl until the last stage is reached at Ahlbeck on Usedom.

Popular destinations such as the Timmendorf lighthouse on the island of Poel or the OZEANEUM in Stralsund can be reached on the long-distance cycle route along the Baltic Sea.

On the way between metropolises and the Mecklenburg Lake District: the long-distance cycle route Berlin-Copenhagen

The Berlin-Copenhagen Cycle Route takes you from capital city to capital city. Sixteen stages have to be covered here. Pulsating metropolises and medieval Hanseatic cities, glittering lakes and primeval beech forests adorn the route and guarantee an impressive experience that can hardly be surpassed in its diversity. At Ellbogensee, south of Neustrelitz, bike travelers begin the section of the route through Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.

The Müritz, the queen of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern's lakes, is on the program, as are the cities of Güstrow and Rostock, famous for their brick buildings. A visit to the Müritzeum or Güstrow Castle should definitely be included. Along the Warnow River, the Berlin-Copenhagen Cycle Route continues to the Baltic Sea. Finally, the ferry takes you from Rostock to the south of Denmark, until the Danish capital Copenhagen welcomes travelers at their destination.

From the capital to the sunny island: the Berlin-Usedom long-distance cycle route

Business enthusiasts can cycle from the city to their vacation on the Berlin-Usedom long-distance cycle route. In just eight days, travelers make their way from the German capital to the idyllic island on the Baltic Sea. The route follows the Uecker River through the Stettiner Haff Nature Park to Ueckermünde. Dense pine and birch forests adorn the path, while from Ueckermünde the view revels over fine sandy beaches and dreamy fishing villages. If you like, you can plan a detour to the diving gondola at the Zinnowitz pier or to the Peenemünde Historical-Technical Museum. From Anklam, the Berlin-Usedom Cycle Path finally leads to its final stage on the sunny island of Usedom.

Surrounded by sparkling lakes: the Mecklenburg Lakes Cycle Route

The stops on the Mecklenburg Lakes Cycle Route are also absolutely worth seeing. Like a best-of of the long-distance cycle routes Berlin-Copenhagen and Berlin-Usedom, the cyclists cycle through the unique landscape of Mecklenburg Schwerin and the Mecklenburg Lake District until they cross the Peene River behind Anklam in the direction of Usedom. At the center of the fourteen-day tour are, of course, the sparkling lakes of the region, first and foremost the Müritz, Germany's largest inland lake. The route winds through the Lewitz bird sanctuary, rich in species and water, and the Müritz National Park - a Mecca for nature lovers and water sports enthusiasts. For cultural highlights on the trip, take a trip to Ludwigslust Castle or the Neustrelitz Castle Garden.
