Romantic old town

The Barlach city of Güstrow has a unique and charming atmosphere. Impressive sights are all around.

Welcome to the heart of Mecklenburg. There is nothing quite like the special atmosphere of the Barlach city. A sightseeing tour of the old town is like taking a journey through its history. The cathedral, the parish church, the magnificent Renaissance palace, the market and numerous other sights showcase the different epochs from Gothic brickwork to classicism.

Ernst Barlach, probably the most significant sculptor of the 20th century, lived in Güstrow for 30 years. His most important works of art were created here and can be viewed in the Gertrud Chapel and the studio with its exhibition forum Graphics Cabinet on the Inselsee lake. His bronze sculpture “Der Schwebende” (The Hovering Angel) is on display in the cathedral. Unwind in the idyllic Weinhaus im Hof or at one of the many small rivers and streams. Discover the delights of Mecklenburg cuisine, cordial hosts look forward to your visit.
